Joan Rivers vs. Baby North West?!

We all know 80-year-old comedienne Joan Rivers can take it a little too far sometimes. Her latest routine however, went WAY overboard. Joan had a stand-up comedy show in LA on Friday, and decided to take a jab at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's infant daughter, North West. Apparently she ran into Kim K. and Nori at the E! offices one day. On stage she said, "That baby is ugly! I've never seen a six-month-old so desperately in need of a waxing!"

I understand that comedians poke fun at celebs and their lives, but making fun of a child, let alone an infant is crossing the line. It's one thing for a grown adult to be scrutinized, but a baby?! C'mon Joan, really?? I get it, celebrities are in the spotlight, and therefore their children are in the spotlight, but Kim and Kanye have done a pretty good job at keeping Nori under wraps as best as possible.

Personally, I like Kim Kardashian, although I definitely don't agree with everything she does. Kanye on the other hand, has really been getting on my nerves lately. I love his older music, but his new music isn't that great && over the past few years he's become so narcissistic!! Regardless of how I feel about her parents, I actually think Nori is a pretty cute baby. I don't care if Joan really does think North West is hideous, she should have never said it. Children should always be off limits, whether you like the parents or not. There are some things that are better left unsaid and this is definitely one of those things.

Joan isn't the prettiest person on the planet, not to mention her own daughter isn't the epitome of beauty. Joan apparently thought that she was so ugly that she had to go get an entirely new face. Obviously she has some self-confidence issues herself. I understand two wrongs don't make a right, but I'm pointing out the obvious here. These are also grown adults, not a minor child that I'm talking about.

Overall I think that this went way too far and Joan should know better. It takes a heartless bully to attack an infant, and I don't care who the baby's parents are, no child deserves that.

What do you think about Joan's latest act? Let me know in the comments below!!

xo, Sarah

  1. I have to agree, children should be left off limits... they never requested any of the attention the parents did... Joan really should have known better...

  3. Sarah, to be honest, I don't understand comedians humour and I don't find it funny most of the time. I have two kids of my own. My husband and I went to a comedy night in Covent Garden when I was expecting and the comedian kept taking the mickey out of labour. He made everything sound filthy and disgusting and I couldn't stay there till the end. I cried at the end of the night. I totally agree with you that there is a line which nobody should cross.
My guess is that Joan was really taking the mickey out of Kim rather than her baby by saying that the baby needs a wax, but, yes, it's not cool to involve babies, kids, pregnant women and others that are vulnerable in jokes.

    1. I also have two kids and I totally agree. Just like there are certain topics you aren't supposed to discuss with acquaintances (politics, religion, etc.), there are certain topics that you shouldn't joke about. They aren't funny. Kids definitely fall under this category. People made enough fun of Kim while she was pregnant, they don't need to make fun of her beautiful child too. Aww I feel bad about the comedy night you went to!! I would have felt really uncomfortable too and I don't know how I would've reacted. Some comedians are genuinely funny but a lot of them really cross the line and don't know when to stop. Thanks for your comment! <3

  7. I remember hearing this. I'm usually the first to laugh my ass off at what Joan Rivers says on Fashion Police however, I do agree this is just wrong. Kids should be off limits. Celebrity parents or not.. no one should say a thing about children, let alone a baby!

  8. I remember hearing about this and I was shocked when I did! I can't believe someone would actually make fun of such an adorable baby!! Even if she doesn't like Kim, she has no right to hurt an innocent baby! I think if she really needs to take anything out on Kim, she should talk about Kim!!
hehe, I agree that Joan isn't the prettiest lady .. she has a really bratty/rude personality which makes her ugly to me!

  9. To some extent I think any decent person instinctively knows the topics that are off limits--a baby is definitely one of them, they can't defend themselves!! Makes me think of the saying, "pick on someone your own size".

  10. I totally agree with you, she's really crossed the line, and I think that Nori is ever so beautiful! No one should make fun of babies or children, which is the reason why you will never see a celebrity's kid's face in the media in France, as children are protected by the law. I think it's the best way of protecting them.

  11. Joan is stupid. I don't like Kim OR Kanye, but you don't insult a baby. She can't help her parents!

  12. That's absolutely ridiculous! I completely agree with you, children are off limits. It really brings Joan Rivers' bad character into the limelight; I lose my respect for people easily when they pull a move like that.

  13. celebs are great fodder for comedians, but never kids or babies. that's rude and proves you're out of material.

  14. What Joan Rivers does is BULLY celebrities. It's disgusting. I honestly don't care that it's Kim Kardashians baby or any other baby, that is NOT ok!

  16. You're acting like a baby can hear and understand what was said about it at a comedy show or whatever...sure it might not be nice, but seriously? Bullying implies that the child is hearing it and taking to heart every comment, and it is going to affect them for the rest of the life. I bet that baby will grow up never even knowing thousands of people across America thought it was ugly, agreed with her joke, and also hates her parents.

She gets paid to be controversial and your reaction is playing into exactly what she was going for. The saying goes "there's no such thing as bad press" and think about it--by talking about this, people who haven't heard are going to go look up what she said and watch the videos. That's advertising money for every broadcaster/youtuber who posted it because she did offend you! In other words, she did her job and now everyone who hates the Kardashians are just having more of a laugh about it.

I'd also like to point out that by attacking Joan's appearance and her daughter's, you're not any better than Joan herself. The difference between what Joan did and what you did is that a baby will never know the wiser if people don't talk about it.

Some babys are ugly. Yep I said it! You can't deny you've looked at someone else's baby before and didn't think "aww what a bundle joy." Some people make jokes for a living, yes, at other people's expense. It's not like she interrupted someone's award acceptance hohoho! Oh wait no that was Kanye...

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get snarky at me for disagreeing with your post but I think people get way too defensive about stupid things. This is on the same level as being offended that someone may have thought your outfit was ugly in their head, or someone thought your voice was obnoxious. You're never going to know the better and it doesn't affect you anyway. This baby isn't going to grow up with a dysphoric disorder or eating disorder because it's a freaking baby.

Yes, making fun of an ugly baby is stupid at best, but at least she isn't making rape jokes like Dane Cook, driving drunk like Bieber, or saying anything nearly as stupid and offensive as Kanye repeatedly does on a daily basis.

    1. It doesn't bother me that you disagree, because MY opinion is the one that matters most to me. The only thing I find comical is that you have so much to say but wrote this comment anonymously. :) haha.
